Tan's Donuts

I read Maya Cheav's book, "Tan's Donuts," weeks ago. The review wasn't one to publish immediately because Cheav's stories about a Cambodian donut shop owner were thought provoking. The setup of the book was creative. Different donuts sold by his store are used to describe some of his customers. The stories delve into memories of his life in Cambodia, and how his life was affected by the Khmer Rouge.

I would like for the book to do well and be read by many because Cambodian history wasn't covered in World Geography class and it is an excellent read. "Tan's Donuts," compared to what I had been reading before, had brevity in the book and stories. Let me tell you this: the short stories made the thoughts, memories, and feelings described hit hard. Hitting hard is good - I was captivated. Sometimes reading less words is more powerful than reading many.
