Thoughts

I had lunch with my Aunt Inja, cousin Hae Eun and my Mom in this restaurant we always go to, Mari Jan Song. It's a Chinese restaurant in Koreatown, Los Angeles. I've gone there after funerals, for Hae Eun's sister's son's 1 year old Birthday, and now for a lunch. I recognized one of the waitresses there, the dye job she had on her hair the last time I saw her had almost grown out.

My Korean vocabulary is still small, so I couldn't understand everything being said amongst my Aunt, Mom and Hae Eun. I was introduced to an older gentleman and his wife at the table next to us, I said to them, "Pangapsumnida." (Nice to meet you). Aunt was pleased that I knew and said this. I neglected to ask who these people were. I found out that my cousin Patrick (Aunt Inja's son) is watching the same Korean soap I am watching (Byul Nan Yuja, Byul Nan Namja [the Bizarre Bunch]).

It feels different without Aunt Soonja. We used to participate in a Ggeh (Korean word for money club) and meet at various restaurants in the Koreatown area. The Aunts would talk for a long time, and then we'd go for coffee in Koreatown Plaza and there'd be more talking. This time, when my Mom asked if we wanted to do something after lunch, I said no. With Tom coming up to see me, I needed the extra time to clean up my room, etc. When my Mom asked if I wanted to go to Kim's Home Appliances after our lunch was finished, I had to say no again. My budget would do better to lay off shopping excursions. Kim's has all sorts of neat knick-knacks and goods and I'd want some. It's no fun shopping when your bank account is low...this time my small numbers are due to my last session of dentistry for a while and a Nordstrom's mini
shopping spree. But I really didn't want to go because of time.

Well it turns out that Tom is coming up later than I expected, so I could have accompanied my Mom to Kim's or maybe even have gone for coffee. Well, at least I stayed out of the rain. And I have time to vacuum, ha ha ha. The problem with the carpet in my room is that it doesn't succumb to vacuuming very well. The vacuums are never able to make much of a dent in the carpet mess. My Mom said it's because the carpet is old. She was unhappy that my Landlady would not re-carpet the room.

Well, my modest digs will have to remain modest digs for now, but to dream I wouldn't mind having my own bathroom, having a bigger room with nice carpet. In a newer house. This place is just too old. But I'm going to stop the blog now, before I launch into a barrage of complaints.
